Auto theft is a leading crime in the U.S., costing consumers more than $8.2 billion annually. A car is stolen in the U.S. every 26 seconds and only 52% of the cars stolen are ever recovered.
Risk factors for theft include car color, model, and make. Neutral colors are stolen most often. Car models which have interchangeable parts are attractive to thieves because they can be broken up and sold for more profit. The Ford F-150, the nation’s most popular pickup truck, is also one of the most commonly stolen vehicles for its parts.
