Protecting the POTUS [Infographic]

These days, it would be difficult to imagine the president without the secret service surrounding him. Before 1901, however, the secret service was used to check for counterfeit currency. It was only in 1901, after the assassination of William McKinley, that the secret service began the task of protecting the president. Today the secret service protects the president, vice president, the president-elect and vice president-elect, and their immediate family members, among others.
