Since the discovery of antibiotics, healthcare has improved dramatically.  Overall life expectancy has risen, as has overall quality of life.  However, these miracle drugs have been overused and over-prescribed to the point that we are breeding a new generation of superbugs that are resistant to everything we throw at them.  This infographic breaks it down:
