Very interesting thoughts here Andy, quite an unpleasant surprise since I have not seen any blog that does not rely on social media for traffic to a certain extent. In my post linked from my name I suggested an idea for a new tool to track influence of blogs that could work like some hybrid of Technorati and AidRSS. I think that since sponsors of blogs rarely buy traffic, reputation and influence that should be of higher importance to them and this is what such tool should actually measure. It will be interesting to see if my idea gets any supporters (or opponents).

Great info. I'm not sure why that they would penalize traffic from certain things. especially not in a way where if more than a percentage of your traffic comes from social media then you could be wiped off the map.

just another reason why I think that advertisers will pay less and less attention to alexa in the future.

Great information, thanks for sharing it with us. So, if I understand this, the more traffic you get from social media, the more penalized you are? That's just nonsense for me, as traffic is traffic. Sure, don't make it count as much, but don't turn it into a penalty!
